With the recent Source 2 engine updates in early 2026, the volumetric smoke mechanics have drastically changed how mid-control is played on Mirage. The old 128-tick jump bind lineups from CS:GO are completely obsolete, and even the early 2024 lineups have shifted due to the recent skybox clipping update. Our analysts have re-tested the geometry to bring you the definitive guide to taking A-site and Mid.
Crucial update for Update 24.1: Volumetric smokes now bloom slower but cover a larger area. Our new lineups are optimized to drop faster and block vision earlier.
Why Old Smokes Fail in 2026
Valve's latest sub-tick optimization adjusted how grenades interact with invisible clipping brushes. This means if your smoke clips a pixel of a wall, it drops immediately. You must use the new "Open-Sky" lineups. Furthermore, HE grenades can now disperse smoke for 2 seconds. Our analysis takes this into account.
1. The Ultimate Window Smoke (Spawn Lineup)
Taking mid control relies entirely on blinding the sniper in the window. Due to the new volumetric spread, you must aim slightly higher than the old antenna mark.
- Position: Wedge yourself in the trash can corner right outside T-Spawn.
- Aim: Find the top right corner of the rug hanging over the balcony, move your crosshair up to the invisible line aligning with the top antenna.
- Action: Hold 'D' (right movement key) for exactly one step and Jump-Throw.
Effect: This lands perfectly inside the window sill, dropping inward so CTs cannot boost over it without being exposed to Top Mid.
2. Top Mid to Short (Catwalk) Smoke
If you plan to split B, you need to isolate Connector from Short.
- Position: Stand behind the boxes at Top Mid.
- Aim: Aim at the tip of the second palm tree leaf on the right.
- Action: Standard left-click throw.
3. A-Site Execution: Stairs & Jungle
A fast A execution now requires only two smokes if placed perfectly, as volumetric clouds fill gaps better.
Stairs Smoke:
- Position: Stand on the first step of the T-Roof scaffolding.
- Aim: The gap between the two wooden planks on the distant roof.
- Action: Standard left-click throw. No jump bind required.
Jungle / Connector Smoke:
- Position: Align with the second pillar in A-Main.
- Aim: Aim at the bottom left corner of the protruding stone block on the wall.
- Action: Jump-Throw.
Advanced Mastery: The Connector One-Way Counter
Many CTs now HE-disperse the standard jungle smoke to establish Connector control. To counter this, your support player must throw the following smoke that blooms behind thedispersed HE area.
- Position: T-Spawn, near the bicycle.
- Aim: Aim at the middle of the large rug on the wall.
- Action: Jump-Throw.
Pro Tip: Countering the HE Dispersal
Volumetric smokes in 2026 can be temporarily dispersed with HE grenades. Always coordinate with your entry fragger to push exactly when the smoke fully blooms. Have a support player ready to throw a flashbang the moment a CT throws a grenade into your smoke—they will be caught mid-animation.
